Abstract

Older adults constitute a growing population group, acquiring significant relevance within the electorate. In parallel, given this new demographic landscape, “active aging” is being promoted, recognizing the participation of older adults as a fundamental human right. However, the study of electoral participation in old age —especially from a political science perspective— remains a poorly developed field. Our contribution addresses this gap. This article proposes an approach to electoral participation in old age based on a qualitative analysis of the experiences of older adults, recently conducted in the city of Santa Fe, Argentina, during the years 2017-2023. The results identify discontent with “politics” and commitment to democracy as central dimensions of this participation.
