Abstract

Political incorrectness is an indelible mark of the radical right, which uses polarizing, provocative, and divisive discourses to attack tolerance and democratic pluralism in order to mobilize a political support base that is apathetic, indignant, or alienated by the discourse of established parties. The Brazilian elections of 2022, Argentine elections of 2023, and American elections of 2024 were instances where Jair Bolsonaro, Javier Milei, and Donald Trump made political incorrectness an indelible mark of their practices. Therefore, through qualitative analysis based on grounded theory, this paper analyzes the positioning of the three leaders in presidential television debates, to characterize the physiognomy of political incorrectness and understand the fears their discourses imprint on the democratic horizon.
