Abstract

This research examines how the slum urbanization policies implemented by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (2016–2019) influenced electoral behavior. Using a quantitative differences-in-differences approach, it compares electoral outcomes in urbanized and non-urbanized neighborhoods with similar characteristics. The findings reveal that the governing coalition Juntos por el Cambio maintained its electoral support in urbanized slums, while it lost significant votes in non-urbanized areas. This suggests that slum urbanization policies can alter traditional voting patterns, favoring the party implementing them.
